Help keep Boca Raton's golf course in top playing condition

Golfers and the community expect a course that is safe, attractive and well kept every day. As Assistant Golf Course Superintendent , you'll lead the maintenance crew day to day and work alongside them on mowing, irrigation, bunkers and course setup. You'll also train and coach the team. You report to the Golf Course Superintendent and step in for them during short absences.

This role suits a hands-on turf professional who likes leading people as much as caring for the course.

• Have 2+ years of supervisory experience in golf course, park, landscape or grounds maintenance
• Like working alongside your crew instead of managing from a desk
• Know turf, irrigation and grounds equipment
• Enjoy training, coaching and building a positive team
• Are comfortable working outdoors in Florida weather

Essential Functions 

Lead and develop the crew

• Assign daily work, set priorities and adjust workloads to finish course maintenance on time
• Train and mentor staff on maintenance techniques, equipment operation and safety
• Give real-time feedback, coaching and recognition to keep quality and morale high
• Help resolve workplace conflicts and encourage open, respectful communication
• Act as the link between the crew and supervisors
• Take charge of daily operations when the Golf Course Superintendent is briefly away

Maintain the course

• Work hands-on with the crew on mowing, edging, trimming, irrigation, bunker maintenance, landscaping and course setup
• Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and adjust irrigation systems
• Help apply fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides according to labels and regulations
• Help troubleshoot equipment, turf and maintenance problems, and report issues that need more attention

Coordinate, stay safe and keep records

• Work with golf operations staff to plan maintenance around daily play, tournaments and special events
• Lead by example on safety: hold safety talks and tailgate meetings and fix hazards quickly
• Make sure the crew has the tools, equipment and materials they need
• Keep records on turf-care applications, irrigation, equipment maintenance, training and safety compliance
• Reinforce good customer service with golfers, visitors and the public

Must-have qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of progressively responsible management-level experience in golf course, park, landscape or grounds maintenance, including supervising staff, planning and assigning work, and overseeing daily operations
• Experience safely operating and inspecting grounds equipment and doing routine maintenance and adjustments
• Valid Florida Class E driver's license
• Florida Pesticide Applicator License , or the ability to get one within 6 months of hire

What will make you stand out

• Training or coursework in turf management, horticulture, agronomy or a related field
• 5+ years of golf course, park, landscape or grounds maintenance experience
• Direct experience maintaining greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing golf course irrigation systems
• Advanced knowledge of turf health, cultural practices, pest management and irrigation scheduling

Thing To know..

• Physical demands: This job is mostly outdoors in heat and changing weather, with exposure to insects, animals and reptiles. You'll operate machinery and power tools continuously. Some tasks require lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling up to 165 lbs, climbing ladders and working in tight spaces.
